What is a site assessment?
A site assessment is an essential step in your move towards a more energy-efficient home. During your site assessment, one of our accredited Battery and Solar Installers will visit your property. The purpose of this visit is to identify any site-specific requirements and create a plan for a smooth process on the day of your installation.
What will the Installer do during the site assessment?
The Installer will prepare a detailed report on your site and send it to our Engineering team. They will also take photos to assist our team. These can include for example your roof, main switchboard, garage, entry/exit points, and the location for your battery.
Some key parts of the site visit include:
Identify the best location for the hardware of your Kit (eg: Solar Panels, Inverter and Battery).
Evaluate the roof and take photos
Inspect the Main Switch Board
Plan the cable route and wiring to connect your hardware components (eg: from the solar panels on the roof to your switchboard).
Prepare the site access plan for your home, including planning the required equipment to access the roof and safely complete the installation.
Discuss the plan for battery backup during a blackout (if you want this functionality).
Their report will also include if any pre-works are required prior to booking the installation.
Do I need to be home for the Site Assessment?
Yes, you will need to be present for the appointment to give your Installer access to the property. It can also be helpful to show the Installer the location of your switchboard, and potential locations you’d like your battery installed. Battery locations are governed by factors including Australian standards. However, Installers will appreciate your input/preference.
What happens after my site assessment?
The accredited Installer will send the report back to our engineering team which will help them complete the design of your Home Energy Kit including the position of panels, equipment location and wiring.
We will then provide a copy of your design embedded in the quote. If there were pre-works (modifications) that were identified, these will need to be completed before your installation can commence. We will provide you with a list of these, if any.
Can I choose where my battery goes?
In most cases your battery will be located near the solar inverter. The Installer has a duty to make sure the location is compliant with relevant Australian Standards, however they will appreciate your input.
We recommend considering potential locations for your battery ahead of your site assessment. You can then discuss these with your Installer during the appointment. We’ve created a handy checklist to help.
Does a battery have to go on a wall?
Batteries will typically be close to or against a wall to facilitate the cable and ease of installation. Batteries can be mounted on the wall or be floor-mounted depending on the site and the model of the battery. Your Installer can discuss the options with you.
Can a battery go outside?
Yes – the batteries we offer are rated for installation outside.
I have an electric vehicle, does my inverter or battery have to be next to where I charge my car?
Not necessarily – Your EV might be charged from a wired-in charger or power point connected to your electricity switchboard. Your solar and battery will be connected to your switchboard. So, If your EV charger supports integration with Solar/Battery system you will be able to charge your car using power from your solar or battery when needed, even if your car and battery aren’t close together.
Do I need spare tiles for installation day?
If you have a tile roof it’s a good idea to have a few spare tiles handy for installation day. The number varies depending on the type of tiles, but your Installer will highlight this according to your roof type.
