# What is a feed-in tariff (FiT)?

A feed-in tariff (FiT) is a financial incentive provided by electricity retailers or governments to encourage the adoption of renewable energy sources like solar power. When your solar panels generate more electricity than your household consumes, the excess is fed back into the grid, and you receive a payment for this surplus electricity.
